One thing I hardly ever talk about here on the blog is my fitness routine. Funny enough, working out is a part of my job and you guys been also requesting more fitness related posts on here… so lets jump right into it and start with the most fundamental thing about working out. Motivation!!!
I mean let’s face it ladies & gents, working out can be a huge chore sometimes. For those of you who don’t know by now, I used to be a professional figure skater back in the day, and I still skate in shows every now and then. Therefore, working out and keeping my body on a healthy state of mind has always been a big thing for me. I do have to admit tho, my genes aren’t the best, I loooooove any kind of bad food, and I am generally a very comfortable person, – meaning I’d rather stay in bed longer or launch on my coach at night haha. That also means I have to push myself a little harder on what I want to accomplish with my body. Over the past years, I’ve learned that motivation is key to everything! If you don’t have the right mindset – your goals will most likely disappear after just a couple weeks, or even worse you beet yourself up because you didn’t reach what you wanted to accomplish . – So let’s change that right now …
Below you can find my personal easy to follow motivation tips that will keep you going at all times, and most of all, – it will keep you focused to not lose track! Ready, set, gooooo!
1. Set big and small goals
Your overall goal might be to lose 10 or even more pounds until Summer, but you have to give yourself enough time to actually make things happen!!! You need to also set small goals that are attainable quicker, so that you don’t get burned out. BIG & SMALL GOALS!!!
2. Write it down
Sometimes taking the time to write things down can put them into perspective and make you feel accountable. Write your goals down. AGAIN, that means small and big goals, and the steps you need to get there. Example: If you would like to lose 5 pounds. Small goal: 1 pound at a time – what do I need to do to get there? Cardio 2x times per week, plus nutritional change.. and so on! Big goal: If you follow all small goals step by step – you are on your way to your big goal! Just keep pushing! Be creative and see how you can reach your goals, make a meter plan – or ask a professionalist to help you!
3. Schedule it in …
Honestly, one of the hardest parts about working out can be finding the time to fit it into your schedule. To me personally, I find myself working out more when I plan it into my week. Usually on Sunday nights, I pick 2 to 4 days that I know I can make time to work out – and again WRITE IT DOWN in my calendar so as if it was a set appointment! An appointment with myself haha! Even if you start with one day per week, that’s totally fine, getting one workout in is better than no workout at all! Think about your week in a reasonable manner, and set aside time to workout. 30 mins per workout are surely enough, and who doesn’t have 30 mins in a day!!!!?! RIGHT?!?!
4. Consider an audiobook
Of course music does a great job to get me going and pumped up, but I just need some inspiration while I’m sweating sometimes! Love to listen to great podcasts that motivate me even more, or a simple audiobook. Both work and are a great replacement for your regular music. Try it out for yourself!
5. Invest in cute, comfortable workout gear
Upgrade your outfit. YES, even when it comes to working out. It seems so minor, but actually having proper “workout” clothing can be a huge motivator. I will make sure to post some cute workout gear in my upcoming post!
6. How you’re going to look
This one is very simple but does WONDERS!!! Imagine a slimmer, fitter YOU. Now let that visualization drive you. – read that again!!!!
7. Stop comparing yourself to others
We all do it and it just can’t be turned off, but next time you find yourself comparing to someone else, remind yourself of what you have going for yourself, of all the things that you do like about your body. It’s not about changing yourself into someone else, it’s only about changing you into the best possibly version of yourself. If you WANT to compare, only compare yourself to the person you were yesterday!
8. Be optimistic
Have you ever heard the saying, “whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right”? That’s because if you think you can’t, you won’t. If you think you can, and you are optimistic, you are more likely to succeed. So, even though you are having a bad day and things aren’t going the way you planned them or the way you expect them to be, – STAY ON TRACK and stay optimistic about reaching your personal goal. Believe in yourself! Even if you experience a bad day, pick yourself up – tomorrow will be another great day, I promise!
9. Have fun!!!
My overall advice would be to get a training partner. Whether you sign up for a group class or you go with your best friend, mom, or boyfriend/girlfriend. It’s always more fun and motivating to have someone on your side who might push you when you wanted to stop. Enjoy your workout and choose something that you love. If you love running, then run; if you love skating, then skate. And yes, sometimes even working out with a friend won’t be fun, because you’re not feeling well or you just don’t want to work out and rather stay on your couch – but again, always remember why you started. Go back and read your SMALL & BIG GOAL list!
10. LOVE the skin you’re in!!!! Simple, but so true! Love every inch of your body and you will start noticing a huge difference!
