Companies around the globe have rolled out mandatory remote work. And if you are one of the few being fortune enough to still have a job and work from home during these crazy, uncertain times right now – congratulations, YOU are still being employed and that is huge!!!
As I’ve been posting this picture on my Instagram the other day, I received quite some messages from you asking on how to handle the entire “work from home” situation and if I could share some helpful tips with you on what I do to stay motivated and on top of my game… Your wish is my command!
I am no guru in managing the home office condition, but I sure have collected some strategies & habits over the past years working from home, before moving into the new office, that I am more than happy to share with you today. In one of my previous office talks ” Home Office – the art of staying on track while working from home” I already talked about some useful work hacks that you can implement on a daily basis. In today’s post I’m focusing on some more specific tips that have been helpful for me in the past weeks, for working remotely from home…
Set the tone – MOVE
I was serious when I said “make some coffee, put on some gangster rap and handle it…” Ok, gangster rap might not be for everybody haha butttttt whatever your jam might be – SET THE TONE. Prepare some coffee, put on some music and MOVE your BODYYYYYYYYYYY!!! YESSSS you heard me – put the volume up and dance to your favorite song, stretch, do yoga or even a little home workout. Whatever it is that gets you going – do it, movement clears your head and puts you in the right mood. It always does wonders for me, try it out for yourself!
Clear your space
No brainer, right?! Everyone works better in a clean environment!!! So, wherever your chosen workspace might be; kitchen, an actual home office, your cellar… make sure before you start working your work space is clean and you have everything you need on hand.
Tesk or Table over Couch
I am the biggest couch potato and love working in front of my TV, while launching on my couch. Truthfully tough, it is the most unproductive way of working + plus your entire body has the tendency to tighten up over incorrect posture. Soooooo party people, whether you want it or not, do yourself a favor by sitting on an actual table, task or kitchen counter while working!
Talk to your boss
Coronavirus or not, the key to working from home is clear communication with your boss – and knowing exactly what’s expected of you. If you are self employed, being your own boss can be tricky sometimes. Make sure to write down a clear strategic list on what to achieve during this time now.
Treat it like your real-job
Sure lounging around in your pajamas sounds tempting but for your own sake…Take a shower and get dressed. Treat it like a real job!! You will be more productive!!! I promise!
To-Do list
Now, more than ever – you need to be on top of your game! It can be very hard to focus while working from home, so make sure you write a priority To-Do list and check things off once you are done with one task. (You can find an example on how to create a super simple, yet highly effective “PRIORITY TO-DO list” – HERE.)
Time it
Stay on top of your game darling. Working from home can be the biggest challenge because we mostly get caught up in “non-important” things, like laundry, checking Instagram etc, etc… Nah babe, first we get the shit done – theeeen we do the rest! Remember it is an actual work day for you!
Take a Break
Just as important as the To-Do list, – plan in some proper BREAK TIME. And by break I am not talking about procrastinating, scrolling through Instagram or anything like that – I mean like LUNCH BREAK, SNACK BREAK, PEE BREAKE – thats it. NOOOOO PROCRASTINATING babyyyy!!!!
Facetime/VideoCalls
If you haven’t done this already… Fight isolation by contacting one, or even several of your work colleagues/team members. Try to keep the communication up .
Be positive
Setting the right mindset it KEY!!! Be appreciative, more than ever these days. Stay positive – YOU are healthy, YOU have a roof over your head & food on your table, YOU have a job!!!! That’s all that truly matters – aaaaand family of course! ❤︎ Now go, tackle that home office, and might even try that gangster rap!!
