One of the main things I learned from being self employed and mostly working from my desk at home, – organization and a structured plan is EVERYTHING! Only a few mistakes in the morning can already distract our productivity and lower our overall energy! So one of my all time favorite mottos has been “WORK LESS; BUT WORK SMART.” What exactly do I mean by that ?! Well, I noticed we usually get caught up in our every day work routine simply because there is no actual plan we are following. We mostly get overwhelmed as soon as we hit our desk in the morning, swamped by all the work ahead. So, today I’ll be sharing my little “home office secrets” that are proven to be effective to stay on track and be on top of your TO-DO list game at all times…
CREATE A TIDY AND CLEAN WORK SPACE
first and foremost, I think it’s pretty clear to everyone that in order to work efficiently – it’s necessary to create yourself a work space of clarity. A well and clean organized desk/home office sets the tone for everything!
Organize yourself … Being organized is KEY!!!! I always make sure to have cute notebooks which I love writing in, folders, pen holders and everything else I need for a well organized home office! Make plenty of room for just the essentials and keep your desk utensils handy.

WRITE A TO – DO LIST!
but not like the usual one, this one is gonna change your work ethic and your over all organization in so many ways, – promise. I even start my to – do list right after getting up in the morning thaaaats how much I love it – obviously my activities vary from day to day but I swear by this kind of method sooooo much… This morning my personal TO-DO LIST looked a little something like…
Easy to create on your phone ” notes”, you can cross off your TO-DO’S at anytime . I make sure to list all my super important things to priority number 1 and all points that need less of my focus I add to number 2, or even 3. But let me explain a little bit more why and how this list is different & makes a huge difference…
the regular TO-DO list has everything listed at once, we just write down whatever comes in mind and what we have to do… we get quite overwhelmed by just looking at it… bottom line, we barely get shit done, right?! THIS ONE though, you create day by day and YOU are setting PRIORITIES. Sounds so small but I swear, setting priorities to your TO-DO list, will not only give you a structure it keeps you focused on what’s truly important that day – and this makes allllll the difference!
When choosing your first priority START with the one thing you need to be most creative and alert for, – something that needs your most awake self!!!! It is natural that working in front of a computer drains us and lowers our energy level in just a quick amount of time. So, my biggest advice for a great TO – DO list; start your day with something that is most challenging, something that needs your full attention! The brain works best for only a couple hours after getting up, so choose your number 1 priorities wisely!
I usually create my To-DO list before I go to bed… I think of all the things I need to do the next days and prioritize them after their importance… At first it might be a bit challenging for you to truly see what’s more important than others but, you’ll notice once you’ve done it a couple times it becomes natural to you and you get super motivated to get things done.
NO EMAILS BEFORE 10
yup, you heard it right! NO _ EMAILS _BEFORE_10!!!!! Another great advice I can give and one of the things that changed EVERYTHING FOR ME!!!! emails are always my number 2 priority and here is why… I know emails are a huge part of everyones everyday business, mine too, – but like I mentioned above we are capable of using our full 100% brain capacity in the morning, we operate on our highest attention and on full energy levels, EMAILS ARE DRAINING! You need like 20% of your brain capacity to write/answer emails so make sure to use your morning wisely and start with new projects, finish old ones, brainstorm, write blogposts, articles, have meetings or get other very important tasks done. Try it out for yourself… I am sure you will thank me later. It will make such a difference!
NO SOCIAL MEDIA UNTIL YOUR FIRST BREAK
Another hard one I know – especially if you work through social media like I do. Yet again, I noticed unless I have to upload something important or want to let you guys know about something urgent that I am more focused when I don’t let my phone distract me. I always make sure to finish at least 1 task out of my priority number 1 priority list and only then grab my phone; no longer than 5 – 10 minutes… Because we don’t want to waste our morning time/energy, riiiiight?!
LISTEN TO CALM MUSIC
this one might not be for everyone, but it works wonders for me! I usually make sure to light a nicely scented candle and create a super zen like atmosphere for myself while working! I love listening to calming meditation music. ABSOLUTE BEST!!!
