Higher temperatures are still on our daily agenda, and a lot of questions that I got from you recently regarding that topic – What to wear to a 9-5 office job, business meeting or any of these events during the heat. Well, nailing the perfect business outfit in Summer can be for sure challenging, but not impossible…
Business attire is a formal dress code for many offices and corporate events. It denotes a professional style of dress that appears smart and sophisticated. While I would totally recommend pantsuits and skirt suits, business dresses are my personal favorite. For me, despite not working in a traditional office or 9 to 5 job (it’s more like a 7:30AM to 10:30PM with a few bursts of procrastination in between), I still have to get dressed “for work” anytime I have a meeting. On those days I really enjoy looking and feeling polished & put together, or office chic as they call it.
My number one look I’d suggest this Summer that will keep you cool and comfortable Monday through Friday, – would be a plain bodycon dress with a blazer on top. Perfect for any meeting, office job and even for post-work happy hour.
Below you can find a few of my tips that you can easily follow to achieve a sophisticated, yet chic business look.
1. Number one rule: Try to select items that are below your knee. This goes for all dresses and skirts. Remember, you want to look classy — right?!
2. Dress in layers: You can put on and take off layers depending on the current temperature. Start with a skirt and a short sleeve top, or a simple body fitted dress like I did and layer it with a lightweight sweater or blazer. That will take you from air-conditioned coolness to the sizzling sun outside.
3. Buy something white: If you want to add something to visually lighten up your wardrobe for summer, make it white! This color will make you instantly look more cool and crisp and will tie in many other colors in your closet.
4. Select minimal jewelry.
5. Accessories: Opt for a structured black handbag, – less is more and make sure to bring some chic black sunnies with you, for a lunch meeting out.
All set and ready to tackle business.
